Beyond Artemis: Human Expeditions to the Moons of the Solar System
Humankind is returning to the Moon, but we won’t stop there. The international Artemis program is designed to enable exploration much farther afield. Care to float around on the Martian moons? How about a voyage to the icy cliffs of Callisto or the thundering volcanoes of Enceladus? Come see the exotic landscapes of other worlds and the gadgets that will get us there. Journalist, lecturer and space artist Michael Carroll has written about 35 books on subjects ranging from planets and space exploration to ancient archeology. He has written for dozens of magazines worldwide. Carroll is a Fellow and founding member of the International Association for the Astronomical Arts.
Colorado Skies
A seasonal talk series for every equinox and solstice. We'll explore the stars, planets, constellations, and deep-sky using our Megastar projector, which produces a stunning night sky with 10 million stars. You'll be ready to go outside, look up and enjoy our amazing Colorado Skies. Bring your questions!
Exploring the Mysterious Blue Planets: A deep dive into Neptune & Uranus
What’s so special about the other two gas giant planets Uranus and Neptune? What makes them blue? Why is Uranus tipped on its side? They both have a bunch of moons - and rings too!
From Boulder to the Beyond: NASA'S Search for Life Outside the Solar System
Discover how the University of Colorado is developing hardware on small satellites and rocket missions, and how we use these missions to train the students who will lead NASA’s future missions like HWO and beyond.
NASA's Lucy Mission: Updates and Mainbelt Encounters
NASA’s Lucy Mission launched in October of 2021 and will be the first to Jupiter’s Trojan asteroids. By the end of its twelve-year mission, the spacecraft will have flown by a record-breaking number of asteroids for a single mission (eleven and counting!). Four and a half years into the mission, Lucy has passed through the main asteroid belt and is bound for its first Trojan encounter in August of next year. What has the Lucy team been up to?
Science Under the Dome: Artificial Gravity - Fiction or the Future?
From 2001: A Space Odyssey to Interstellar, a popular trope in science fiction is the depiction of spaceships and space stations that use rotation to generate artificial gravity for its inhabitants. Is this technology really possible? What would it take to design such a habitat? Explore fictitious forces, a subtle concept in physics with surprising relevance to daily life on earth.

Unveiling the Dawn of Massive Galaxies with the James Webb Space Telescope
Galaxies are vast collections of stars, gas, and dark matter that trace the underlying structure of our universe. For decades, astronomers have been piecing together the story of how the first galaxies grew and transformed into the massive ellipticals we see today. The James Webb Space Telescope, launched in late 2021, has already revolutionized this field: its deep, sharp view into the infrared lets us directly glimpse the era of cosmic dawn. In this talk, we’ll dive into one of the biggest surprises from JWST so far: the discovery of enormous quiescent galaxies astonishingly early in cosmic history.
