50 Years of Voyagers 1 & 2
NASA's Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft were launched in 1977 and flew past Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Nearly half a century later, they are now about 5 times farther than Pluto from the Sun and are in the interstellar medium, having left the sphere of influence of the Sun the Heliosphere. The Voyager mission opened our eyes to many different new worlds. Dr. Fran Bagenal will present the glories of Voyager and discuss current and future exploration of the outer solar system.
Our Star the Sun: A History of Science in Boulder
Our star, the Sun, brings light and life to the Earth. The Sun is not a boring star --- its surface is covered with magnetic fields, generated in the interior, that come and go over 11-year cycles of solar activity. We have studied the Sun for more than 400 years, and questions about the origins of solar magnetism remain amongst the most important in all of classical physics. The history studying this solar activity has deep ties in Colorado, and was central to Boulder becoming a world-renowned center of scientific research.
Stars & Galaxies
This show will dazzle you with the beauty of the cosmos! In the blackness between the stars, there are an unimaginable number of distant wonders. We are located around just one star of many in an entire galaxy called the Milky Way. Explore other galaxies beyond our own and get a sense for the size of our universe!
Stars & Moons
Explore the stars and constellations in our night sky and then take a deep dive to learn about Earth’s moon and the variety of other bizarre moons in our solar system, including the Death Star moon of Saturn.
Stars & Planets
Join us for an introduction to the night sky, including observable planets, near stars, and seasonal constellations. Then we'll lift off of the Earth to take a tour of our solar system and the universe!
